Join a room
Every way to get into a room, and what happens on arrival.
From the room list
Open /chat/. Rooms that are open to everyone are shown with their topic and number of people. Click one to join. Use the search box to filter, or see Find rooms.
From a link
Every room has its own address, https://www.conferencerooms.org/chat/roomname/. Opening that address takes you straight to the room. This is how you invite friends: see Share the URL.
With a command
In the message box:
/join #roomname
If the room does not exist yet, it is created and you become its operator. See Create a room.
Choosing your nickname
When you arrive you are asked for a nickname. You can use the guest nickname you are offered, pick your own, or log in with a registered nickname and its password. See Register a nickname.
When you cannot get in
| What you see | What it means |
|---|---|
| Cannot join channel (+i) | The room is invite only. Ask an operator to invite you. |
| Cannot join channel (+k) | The room needs a key (a password). Join with /join #room key. |
| Cannot join channel (+l) | The room is full. |
| Cannot join channel (+b) | You are banned from the room. |
| Illegal channel name | The name is not allowed. See Room names. |
