Security and privacy, in plain words.

What other people can see, what stays private, and the controls you have over your room.

Your address stays hidden. Your room stays yours.

Your privacy.

What other people can and cannot see about you. We keep this short and plain, because privacy should not need a lawyer to read.

Your address stays hidden

Other people see your nickname and a network name ending in .crorg, not your real address.

Passwords stay private

Your password is never shown in chat. Nobody from the network will ask for it in a message.

Links ask first

Every link asks before it opens, so you always decide where you go.

Your connection and your name.

Encrypted by default, and your nickname stays yours.

Connections are encrypted

The Web Chat runs over a secure connection, and chat programs can use SSL/TLS on port 6697.

You decide who gets in

Hide a room, require an invite or a key, admit registered members only, or restrict it to your lists.

Registered nicknames

Protect your nickname so nobody else can use it.

See the privacy controls for yourself.

Open a room, make it hidden or invite only and see exactly what other people see.

Your room.

Tools to keep a room the way you want it, from a quiet team space to a public community.

Rude words stopped at the door

A built-in language filter blocks messages with blocked words before they reach the room.

Staff can help, safely

Network operators can step into any room to help, and ordinary users cannot kick or ban them.

Room controls

Operators, access lists, kick, ban and autokick keep your room the way you want it.

How we think about it.

Honest limits matter as much as strong features.

A chat room is a shared space. We give you strong tools to control who comes in, who can speak and what is said, and we keep your personal address out of the room. We cannot control what other people choose to say, which is why every room has operators and every operator has the tools to act.

We are not responsible for user content, links or topics, and we ask everyone to use the service in line with the law where they live. If something in a room worries you, tell an operator or ask for help in #CR.

Chat with confidence.

Others see your nickname, never your address. Your room is yours to lock, hide and run.

Privacy by design, control by default.

Your address stays hidden, your connection is encrypted and your room is yours to lock, hide and run. Those are not extras. They are how ConferenceRooms.org works from the first message.

If you run a team room, a community or an event, you can add access lists, language filtering and logs as you grow, and your people stay protected the whole way.
