confrooms.org and .crorg
A short public redirect, and a private namespace you can run yourself.
Two short names, two different jobs.
Two short names do two different jobs. One is for typing; the other is an internal namespace.
confrooms.org is a short address
confrooms.org is only a URL shortener. It redirects to the canonical site, https://www.conferencerooms.org, keeping the same path.
text
http://confrooms.org/chat/lobby/ -> https://www.conferencerooms.org/chat/lobby/
Use it when you want a shorter address to read aloud, print or paste. It is the same rooms, the same account and the same settings; there is no separate site at confrooms.org.
.crorg is the internal secure namespace
.crorg is not a public TLD. It is the network's internal namespace, and it does two jobs:
- Hostmasks. Other people see your nickname and a host ending in
.crorg. Your real address and hostname stay hidden. - Chat-only share links. A CR Share link looks like
https://confrooms.crorg/share/<id>. It has no public page and no public DNS. Clicking it inside the Web Chat creates a short-livedconferencerooms.orgpassthrough tied to that chat session; the passthrough expires after a few minutes. Outside the Web Chat, nobody can open it.
On an intranet or extranet, your IT team can register
.crorg in your own DNS. That is how internal names resolve for your people. On the public service, .crorg deliberately does not resolve: it is a private namespace, not a public website.Which name to use
