Good questions, straight answers.
Everything people ask before they open their first room.
No account. Nothing to install. Just a nickname and a room.
Before your first room.
Short answers to the questions people ask most. If you do not see yours, the Help Center goes into more detail and our support channel is open.
Getting started
Do I need an account?
No. Pick a nickname and chat. Register your nickname later if you want to keep it.
Is it really free to get a room?
Yes. Start a room, share the link and register it when you want it to stay yours.
What do I need to install?
Nothing. The Web Chat runs in your browser. If you prefer a chat program, any IRC client works too.
Will it work on my phone?
Yes. The chat is designed for small screens as well as large ones.
I have never used chat rooms. Is that okay?
Absolutely. You open a link, choose a nickname and type. Everything else can wait until you want it.
Rather ask a person?
Our support channel, #CR, is open and our staff are glad to help.
Rooms and privacy
What is a registered room?
A room you have claimed. Its topic, settings and trusted people stay in place even when nobody is in it.
Can I make a room private?
Yes. Hide it from the lists, require an invite or a key, or let in registered members only.
Who can see my address?
Other people see your nickname and a network name ending in .crorg, not your real address.
Can I be in more than one room?
Yes. Keep up to ten rooms open as tabs. Colored dots show which have news and which mention you.
Running a room
How do I keep order in a busy room?
Give trusted helpers operator status, lock the topic and modes, use autokick for repeat offenders and turn on the language filter.
How do I leave a message for someone who is offline?
Send them a memo. They see it as soon as they come back.
Can I use my own chat program?
Yes. Any IRC client can connect, with SSL/TLS on port 6697, and your nickname and rooms are the same as in the Web Chat.
Ask us anything.
If the answer is not here, ask a person in #CR, our support channel. We are glad to help.
Free to start and free to keep.
ConferenceRooms.org is a free chat service for teams and communities. You do not need an account to chat, and you do not need to install anything to get started.
Open a room, share the link and learn by doing. Everything else on this page will be here when you need it.
