Formatting and colors
Bold, colors and other styling, and how topics show them.
Operators only. This section is for IRC operators.
Messages and topics can carry bold, underline, italic and colors. Every IRC client understands the same codes, so styling you send from the Web Chat looks right elsewhere, and styling from other programs looks right in the Web Chat.
What you see
- Colored text and backgrounds are shown in the Web Chat, in the room's topic bar, in the room list cards and in the room finder.
- Text drawn with ANSI colors (common in older rooms and art) is shown too.
- The Web Chat picks readable colors for the theme you chose.
Sending styled text
The message box accepts the standard IRC style codes. Most IRC programs have buttons or keys for them; their help explains how to insert bold, color and underline.
Room topics
A topic can use colors. Set one with /topic #room your colored text. In the room-list cards the topic is shortened with "..." when it is long, so write the most important words first.
Note. Rooms can strip colors completely. If your colors do not appear, the room may have color stripping on. Ask an operator.
