Reset the chat look

The Web Chat remembers how you like it. That is on purpose, and it is also why a look you tried once can seem to stick. This page explains what is remembered and how to clear it.

Why the chat keeps a look

• Your layout (Bubbles, Classic, Spotlight, Stage, Deck, Live Chat) is saved in your browser, and also for the tab you are in. Switching layout in a tab keeps that tab on it until you close it.
• Your colours (theme, light or dark, accent, text size, spacing, clock) are saved in your browser for a year, in its storage and in one small cookie of this site.
• An address with codes wins. A link such as /chat/lobby/bb/ or /chat/lobby/bx/ says "show this look right now", so it overrides what is saved. Nothing is saved just by opening it. That is why adding a code to the address always gets you out of a stuck look.
• A locked link. A link with the lk code locks the look: the visitor cannot change the layout or the colours. If a page you were sent will not let you change the look, its link has lk in it. Remove lk from the address to get the settings back.
• The theme looks "picked for you" when you never chose one: by default the chat follows your device, light by day and dark at night, until you choose a theme yourself.

All of this is normal. Nothing is stored on the network; it stays on this browser.

Start fresh with one address

Open this address in the browser that is stuck:

It clears everything the chat saved in that browser: layout, theme, accent, text size, your last nickname, your ignore list and word list. Then press Open the Chat and the chat starts in its default look (Bubbles, following your device). To go straight back to a room afterwards, add the room: https://www.conferencerooms.org/chat-reset/?room=lobby.

What it does not touch: your registered nickname and its password, your friends list (those live on the network), and other websites.

Other ways out

• Add a layout or theme code to the address, for example /chat/lobby/cl/ for Classic or /chat/lobby/bb/ for Bubbles. The codes are in Advanced Sharing Links.
• Settings: open You, then Settings and layout (the gear in Classic) and choose again. If there is no such choice on the page, the link is locked (see above).
• Clear the site data in your browser: in the browser's settings, remove the cookies and site data for conferencerooms.org. This also logs you out of anything else on this site.
• A private or incognito window always starts fresh.
