A tour of the Web Chat
The parts of the Web Chat window and what each does.
Operators only. This section is for IRC operators.
Open www.conferencerooms.org/chat/ to see the room list. Pick a room and the chat window opens, or make your own in the Create a new room box.
The window
- Top bar: the room name, how many people are in it (for example "3 users"), and its modes such as
+nt. The room topic sits under the name. - Left side, the room list: every room you are in, with Highlights and Status at the bottom of the list. A small icon beside each name tells you what is new (see Rooms and tabs).
- Middle, the conversation: messages, joins and leaves, newest at the bottom. A line marks where you stopped reading.
- Right side, the member list: who is in the room. Click a name to start a private conversation.
- Bottom, the message box: type here. The round arrow sends. Enter also sends; Shift+Enter adds a new line.
- Top left: the ConferenceRooms.org name. Clicking it asks "Close this chat and exit?" before leaving.
On a phone
The top bar is slim: a menu button for the room list, the room name, a people button for the member list and a three-dot menu with your nickname, room info and settings. Swipe in from either edge to open the lists. See Mobile.
