Register a nickname
Make your nickname yours alone.
Operators only. This section is for IRC operators.
A registered nickname cannot be used by anyone who does not know the password. It is also the key to your rooms, your memos and your buddy list.
Register
Pick the nickname you want, then:
irc
/msg NickServ REGISTER yourpassword you@example.com
You are identified at once. Choose a password you do not use anywhere else; services keep it so it can be checked, and no one will ever need to ask you for it.
Next time
irc
/msg NickServ IDENTIFY yourpassword
In the Web Chat you can also enter the nickname and password on the screen where you pick a nickname.
