Room names
What a room name may look like.
Operators only. This section is for IRC operators.
- It starts with
#. - It has no spaces, commas or control characters.
- In the Web Chat it can be up to 59 characters long, including the
#. The address box and name fields stop accepting characters at that length. - Upper and lower case are the same:
#Lobbyand#lobbyare one room. - Letters, digits and dashes are the safest choice. Other letters work in most places.
In the web address
The address uses the name without the #, in lower case: #Book-Club is https://www.conferencerooms.org/chat/book-club/. If someone types the name in capitals, they are sent to the lower-case address.
Names that are refused
A few names are reserved for the network. If you see "Illegal channel name" or a message that the name cannot be used, pick another.
Language
Room names are checked by the language filter like any other text. See Language filter.
