Room topic
Set the topic, keep it, and lock it.
Operators only. This section is for IRC operators.
The topic is the line under the room name. It tells visitors what the room is for.
Set it
irc
/topic #book-club Fiction on Fridays - new members welcome
By default only operators can change it (mode +t). Colors and other styling work; the room list shortens long topics with "...".
Keep it when the room is empty
In a registered room, services can remember the topic and put it back when the next person joins:
irc
/cs SET #book-club KEEPTOPIC ON
Lock it
Lock the topic so nobody below a chosen level can change it. If someone tries, services put the topic back.
irc
/cs SET #book-club TOPICLOCK FOUNDER
Choices are OFF, AOP, SOP and FOUNDER. See Topic lock.
Set it without being in the room
Join once, set the topic, set TOPICLOCK, and leave. Services will set the topic again whenever the room is next opened.
