Auditorium Rows
Big events in small rooms: a master room and numbered sub-rooms.
A master room holds the event staff. Everybody else who joins is put into a small sub-room: #event.1 until it has the limit, then #event.2, and so on. What the staff say in the master appears in every sub-room, and the staff appear to be in each one, so thousands of people can attend while each room stays small enough to talk in.
/mode #event +l 30 /prop #event MASTER /prop #event MAX 40 /prop #event MIN 10 /prop #event MASTER 0 /mjoin #event
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
+l 30 (LIMIT) | People per sub-room. When it is full the next sub-room opens. |
MAX | Most people allowed when somebody joins a sub-room directly. |
MIN | When a sub-room is down to this many people it is merged into a lower-numbered room if they fit. |
MASTER 0 | Turn it off. The sub-rooms stay as ordinary rooms. |
The master's modes (for example moderated) and topic are copied to every sub-room. Staff means people with ops or voice in the master. /mjoin #event joins through the rows, turning the room into a master with the network defaults if it is not one yet.
Good to know
- Staff stay in the master. Staff are IRC operators and people with ops, voice or access of VOP or better. Staff are also joined into every sub-room, so they appear to be everywhere. Somebody who joins before they have opered up or identified (a reconnecting client does this) is first put in a sub-room and brought back to the master as soon as they are staff.
+lon the master is read as LIMIT and removed from the master, so a master never fills.- Overflow (
PROP OVERFLOW) is the simpler idea for one room: when it is full, newcomers go to a named room. Rows are for events of any size. - Greetings come from the master only (see Room greeting).
- Ending:
/prop #event MASTER 0turns it off; the sub-rooms stay as ordinary rooms.
