Age-restricted rooms
Adults-only rooms, and how to set your age.
For everybody: set your age
/age 25 /age /age hide /age show /age off
You need a registered, identified nickname (/ns register <password> <email>, then /ns identify <password>). Nobody under 18 can set an age here: anything below 18 is refused. /age hide keeps your age completely private. Other people cannot see it, or even that the field exists, in /ns info, /whois or anywhere else, but age-limited rooms still count it, so you can get in. /age show makes it visible again (wherever the network displays it) and /age off removes it.
In the Web Chat you do not need the commands: click your nickname, then My profile: avatar and age, type your age (18 or older) and press Save age. The same box has the switch Hide my age from everybody.
For room owners: limit a room by age
/cs set #adults agerestrict on /cs set #adults agerestrict 21 /cs set #adults agerestrict off
- ON means a person must have set an age (every age is 18 or older).
- A number from 18 to 99 means the age must be at least that high.
- Anybody else is sent the notice
Restricted: You must be 21 years old or older!(with the number you chose; 18 for ON), plus a line saying what to do (register, then/age <years>), and is shown out of the room. The people already in the room are checked as soon as you turn it on. - The founder, IRC operators and services are not checked.
- In an Auditorium Rows event the master's restriction applies to its sub-rooms.
/cs info #adultsshows the limit.
What people see: a card or a removal
/cs set #adults agegate card /cs set #adults agegate kick
- CARD (the default). In the Web Chat a person who does not qualify is not let in at all. They get a friendly card instead: *log in or register* when they have no registered nickname, a box to type their age (with a switch to keep it hidden) and a Set my age and join button when they have not set an age, and the plain "Restricted: You must be 21 years old or older!" when they are too young. The same sentence heads every card. As soon as they set their age the Web Chat joins them. IRC programs cannot show a card, so they still get the notice and are shown out of the room.
- KICK. Everybody, in the Web Chat as in IRC programs, is let in and then shown out with the notice, as described above.
- The card is a convenience, not the lock. Services check everybody who joins, so nobody gets in by skipping the card. The founder, IRC operators and services never see it.
