Private and hidden rooms
Keep a room out of lists.
Operators only. This section is for IRC operators.
Two modes hide a room:
| Mode | Name | Effect |
|---|---|---|
+s | Secret | The room is not shown in lists, and it is not shown in a person's /whois. |
+p | Private | Treated the same way: the room does not appear in lists. |
irc
/mode #book-club +s
What this does and does not do
- The room is not on the room list page, in the room finder or in
/list. - It can still be opened by anyone who knows the address or the name, so combine it with an invite-only setting or a key for real privacy. See Keys, limits and invites.
- Network operators can see hidden rooms in their own lists.
Keep it permanent
Put +s into the room's locked modes so services set it again whenever the room is empty and recreated:
irc
/cs SET #book-club MLOCK +rtns-k
