Op or access level?
The difference between @ and the lists, in one page.
Operators only. This section is for IRC operators.
This is the most common point of confusion, so here it is slowly.
@ (mode +o) | Access level (UOP, VOP, AOP, SOP, MGR) | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A temporary status in the room | A permanent entry in ChanServ's list |
| Kept when you leave | No | Yes |
| Kept when the room empties | No | Yes |
| Who can give it | Any op | SOP or the founder (for most levels) |
| What it does | Lets you run the room right now | Tells ChanServ to give you @, voice or other powers whenever you arrive |
| Shown as | @ in the member list | Shown by /cs AOP #room LIST |
How they connect
| Access level | Gets automatically | Also lets you |
|---|---|---|
| UOP | - marker; can enter a restricted room | See the lists, receive room memos |
| VOP | Voice (+) | Always speak |
| AOP | Op (@) | Op and voice others, unban, invite yourself, MKICK and MDEOP |
| SOP | Op (@) | Edit AOP and VOP lists and autokicks |
| MGR | Op (@) | Change room settings |
| Founder | Op (@) | Everything, including handing over the room |
An example
Sam is added with /cs AOP #room ADD sam. Every time Sam joins and identifies, ChanServ gives Sam @. If Sam leaves, Sam loses @, but the AOP entry stays. If Sam is deopped by mistake, Sam types /cs OP #room sam to get it back.
