Take back control
What to do when ops are lost, abused or stolen.
Operators only. This section is for IRC operators.
Someone was opped by mistake
irc
/deop sam
Then turn on OPGUARD so it cannot happen again: /cs SET #room OPGUARD ON.
An op is behaving badly
- Take their
@:/deop nick. - If they are on a list, remove them:
/cs AOP #room DEL nick. - If it is serious, kick or ban them.
- Tell the founder.
Everyone is opped and it is chaos
irc
/cs MDEOP #room
Then give @ back one person at a time. MDEOP fails if someone in the room outranks you (for example the founder), so ask them to do it.
You lost your @ in your own room
irc
/ns IDENTIFY yourpassword /cs OP #room yournick
The room was taken over
If you are the founder and identified, you can always recover:
/ns IDENTIFY yourpassword/cs OP #room yournick/cs MDEOP #roomto clear the others, then/cs OP #room yournickagain./cs AOP #room WIPEand/cs SOP #room WIPEif the lists were changed./cs AKICK #room ADD maskfor the people behind it.
If the founder's nickname itself was stolen, ask a network operator for help.
You are banned from your own room
irc
/cs UNBAN #room yournick /cs INVITE #room
Prevent it
- Keep few people at SOP and above.
- Turn on
OPGUARD. - Review your lists every month.
- Use a strong password for the founder nickname.
