How to read this Help Center
How commands, keys and menu names are written here.
Operators only. This section is for IRC operators.
- Things you type are shown in a grey box or
like this. Lines that start with a slash, such as/join #lobby, are commands: type them in the message box and press Enter. - Words in angle brackets, such as
<password>, are blanks that you replace with your own text. Leave out the brackets. - Square brackets, such as
[reason], mean the part is optional. - Keys appear as Enter or Tab.
- A nickname, room name and password in examples are made up.
#roomstands for the name of any room.
Commands and services
Services commands can be typed two ways. The long form works in every program:
irc
/msg ChanServ INFO #room
The short form works in the Web Chat and most clients:
irc
/cs INFO #room
/ns, /cs, /ms and /hs are short for NickServ, ChanServ, MemoServ and HelpServ.
When something here does not match what you see
The pages in the tree under each service (NickServ, ChanServ, MemoServ, HelpServ) show the help text from the services themselves, word for word. The hand-written pages in the other sections explain how to get things done. If the two ever disagree, trust the one you see on the network by typing /hs <command>.
