ACL
Allows managing a channel's access lists. Valid levels are UOP, VOP, AOP, SOP, and MGR.
Operators only. This section is for IRC operators.
Type /msg HelpServ HELP ACL in any client for the same text.
help text
Usage: ACL <#channel> [<level>] <ADD|DEL|LIST|WIPE|COUNT|ENABLE|DISABLE> [<nick>] Allows managing a channel's access lists. Valid levels are UOP, VOP, AOP, SOP, and MGR. The level can be omitted if you use the parameter ACL COUNT, which gives the number of entries in each access level list. Examples: /helpserv acl add /helpserv acl list /helpserv acl aop You need channel access for this command, you will not be able to modify access lists that rank higher or equal to your own access level. The commands ACL LIST and ACL COUNT are available to all users who have access to the channel. Note: This command replaces the service commands /CS UOP|VOP|AOP|SOP|MGR and /CS COUNT.
ACL ADD
help text
Usage: ACL <#channel> <level> ADD <nick> This command adds a nick name to an access list. Valid levels are UOP, VOP, AOP, SOP, and MGR. Examples: /acl #support sop add DrStrangelove /acl #myroom uop acl Bach /helpserv acl aop The request to add a user to an access list in a channel might need an authorization from the user first, see AUTH. Otherwise, this command will add a user immediately.
ACL AOP
help text
Users on the AOP access list will be set CMODE +o (op) when joining the channel. They can change most channel modes (if not locked), PROPs and kick and ban users from the channel. AOPs have quite a bit of power in a channel and adding users to this list should be done with care, as the power can be abused and cause a lot of trouble for the channel and its users. Unlike a temporary channel op, AOPs can op themselves if you deop them, or invite themselves back into the channel if you try to ban them. A channel also shouldn't have too many ops, because it is harder to keep control on everything in a channel if many users are able to change modes and do so regularly.
ACL COUNT
help text
Usage: ACL <#channel> COUNT This command shows how many entries each access list has. Valid levels are UOP, VOP, AOP, SOP, and MGR. Examples: /acl #support count COUNT is particularly useful to see how many users have certain levels of access in a channel, as the list of entries can get quite long, and you might want to check the size before you issue ACL LIST.
ACL DEL
help text
Usage: ACL <#channel> <level> DEL <nick> This command removes a nick name from an access list. Valid levels are UOP, VOP, AOP, SOP, and MGR. Examples: /acl #support sop del DrStrangelove /acl #myroom uop acl Bach /helpserv acl aop
ACL DISABLE
help text
Usage: ACL <#channel> <level> DISABLE <nick> This command disables an entry in an access list. Valid levels are UOP, VOP, AOP, SOP, and MGR. Examples: /acl #support sop disable DrStrangeLove /acl #myroom uop acl Bach /helpserv acl aop Disabling an access entry is a less drastic way to punish a user who abused the access than to delete the entry entirely. You can enable the user's access again with ACL ENABLE.
ACL ENABLE
help text
Usage: ACL <#channel> <level> ENABLE <nick> This command enables an entry in an access list. Valid levels are UOP, VOP, AOP, SOP, and MGR. Examples: /acl #support sop enable DrStrangeLove /acl #myroom uop acl Bach /helpserv acl aop ENABLE is used to enable a previously disabled entry in an access list, see ACL DISABLE.
ACL LIST
help text
Usage: ACL <#channel> <level> LIST This command lists all entries in an access list. Valid levels are UOP, VOP, AOP, SOP, and MGR. Examples: /acl #support sop list /acl #myroom uop acl /helpserv acl aop
ACL MGR
help text
The MGR level stands for Managers, this is the highest access in a channel apart from the founder. Managers have all the powers of a founder, apart from transferring (TRANSFER) and dropping (DETACH) the channel. Just as with AOPs and SOPs, adding MGRs should be done with care, users with this access level can add and delete AOPs and SOPs and will have the last word in channel management decisions, if the founder is not present.
ACL SOP
help text
Users on the SOP access list will be set CMODE +o (op) when joining the channel. They can change most channel modes (if not locked), PROPs and kick and ban users from the channel. SOPs are ranked higher than AOPs and can add and delete nicks to the AOP access list. SOPs have even more power in a channel than AOPs and should be carefully chosen.
ACL UOP
help text
The UOP level is for general regular users of a channel, users on this list will be set CMODE +u when joining the channel. While this mode doesn't give any power, it allows the user to look at the access lists, invite himself into the channel if a channel mode prevents joining, and to receive channel memos. UOP is the lowest level of access and usually just serves as a first recognition of a regular user, who might then become VOP after a certain time.
ACL VOP
help text
Users on the VOP access list will be set CMODE +v (voice) when joining the channel. Being voiced is a good indicator for being a relatively well-known and trusted user in a channel, while it doesn't give any operator powers, it allows the user to invite himself if some channel mode prevents the join, read access to the access lists and to receive channel memos. Being voiced also allows a user to speak in a channel while CMODE +m is set, and to change his nick while CMODE +d is set. VOP is the second lowest level of access and usually the best access level for well-known users in a channel, who don't need to be op or are on their way to become op.
ACL WIPE
help text
Usage: ACL <#channel> <level> WIPE This command removes all entries from an access list. Valid levels are UOP, VOP, AOP, SOP, and MGR. Examples: /acl #support sop wipe /acl #myroom uop acl /helpserv acl aop Be careful with this command, as it can not be undone and might cause a lot of work in trying to restore the access list.
